When we started working with silicone molds, we learned very quickly that the mold alone isn’t everything. How it’s supported during casting has a big influence on how the final product turns out.
Clean lines, straight walls, and consistent shapes don’t happen by accident. They come from testing, small adjustments, and paying attention to details that are easy to overlook at first. Support is one of those details.
Over time, through our own production and testing, we began designing our molds to work with two types of supports: internal and external. Not every mold needs both. What matters is how the form behaves during casting and what it needs to hold its shape properly.
Internal supports: roundness and refill compatibility
Internal supports focus on the inner shape of the mold and help keep finished products round and dimensionally consistent. This is especially relevant for candle vessels designed for refill systems, where the internal shape needs to be correct for a refill to fit properly. Even small inconsistencies can affect how the refill sits or how easily it can be inserted.
The internal ring support sits at the bottom of the mold, where it touches the surface during casting. From there, it helps define the shape from the base upward and keeps the inner diameter stable while the material cures.
Internal supports help ensure:
• round, well-shaped finished products
• consistent internal dimensions
• reliable compatibility with candle refills
All of our jar molds are designed to be used with an internal ring support as standard.
External supports: straight walls and visual balance
External supports stabilise the mold from the outside and help keep the overall shape in place. Silicone naturally flexes during casting, and without enough control, forms can shift as the material sets. By holding the mold steady, external supports help maintain straight walls and clean vertical lines.
This becomes especially important for taller designs, where even small movements are more noticeable. All molds in our TALL line include an external support as part of the standard mold setup.
Why the right setup matters
These design decisions aren’t extras. They’re part of how each mold is meant to work. A well-considered setup reduces variation between casts and helps keep results consistent over time. This matters most for home decor products, where shape, fit, and overall balance are just as important as appearance.
Final thoughts
Everything we design is guided by the same idea: creating tools that help makers achieve beautiful, well-balanced home decor pieces. We refine, test, and adjust because we believe these details matter.
When the foundation is right, the rest of the process falls into place more naturally. And that’s exactly what we want for you.
